ANGER MANAGEMENT

WHAT IS ANGER MANAGEMENT?

If you are having anger issues that affect your relationship with your partner and other family members, then anger management counselling sessions might be for you. You may notice that you are arguing frequently, the arguments just won’t go away, you are engaged in power struggles, you shout, use insults, throw objects, can be physical and your partner complains that you have anger issues and feels abused. Anger management counselling sessions are similar to traditional counselling sessions, but the focus is on anger management while also addressing any coexisting issues that may contribute to your anger. I believe anger management sessions should be delivered by a practitioner with a proven track record of working with anger management issues. Please see my proven track record of delivering anger management here and visiting a sister website and then scroll down.

How many sessions are required before you see improvements?

Typically, clients start reporting improvements within 12 sessions, with each session lasting an hour. However, many clients choose to continue beyond 12 sessions because they find the process helpful. Whilst there is often a reduction in anger-related difficulties, many people also experience other issues in their lives, such as work or relationship difficulties, and wish to continue receiving support.

Do the anger management sessions work?

Before I began studying psychology, I asked myself the same question and wondered whether I was wasting my time and money by investing in a psychology degree. At postgraduate level, when I set up my private practice, I relied mainly on CBT method and started seeing my clients grow and improve, and together with their positive feedback, I realised that counselling does work. Also a study involving 1,640 participants found that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for anger management produced moderate to large reductions in anger (Beck & Fernandez, 1998).The same applies to anger management; my clients often improve not only in managing their anger but also in other areas of their lives. Some clients report improvements in their mood, communicate more effectively, appear more confident, and tell me that their family members have noticed the positive changes. Some clients also report losing weight through the positive skills they develop during the sessions. You can view my reviews here.
